Services
Oxford
Digital Library is currently establishing a range of core
services to support the creation of digital resources from
the Bodleian Libraries holdings. Services will
include:
- A
central digital image capture service for the whole
range of still images (black & white/bitonal, greyscale
and colour).
- Advice
and consultancy on key aspects
of digital library developments and production, including
digitization, metadata, storage, online delivery, workflow
management, grant writing and costing

A
robust and flexible Digital Library system to ensure
integrated access and sustainability for digital resources
(currently under development).
- Providing
reliable storage and archiving mechanism for Bodleian Libraries
digital library projects in cooperation with Oxford University
Computing Services (OUCS)
- Evaluation,
development and provision of tools (i.e. image
enhancement and OCR programs, XML-editors) to capture
different kinds of data during the digital production
process
- Linking
to relevant resources for digital
library development and repositories
ODL
staff will be evaluating and implementing internationally
agreed standards for digital library elements (i.e. technical
parameters for image capture, metadata schemes and delivery
protocols).
Training
of digital library project personnel will ensure the capture
of interoperable digital data conforming to ODL standards.
