Oxford Digital Library

Oxford Digital Library is currently establishing a range of core services to support the creation of digital resources from the Bodleian Libraries holdings. Services will include:

  • A central digital image capture service for the whole range of still images (black & white/bitonal, greyscale and colour).
  • Advice and consultancy on key aspects of digital library developments and production, including digitization, metadata, storage, online delivery, workflow management, grant writing and costing
  • A robust and flexible Digital Library system to ensure integrated access and sustainability for digital resources (currently under development).
  • Providing reliable storage and archiving mechanism for Bodleian Libraries digital library projects in cooperation with Oxford University Computing Services (OUCS)
  • Evaluation, development and provision of tools (i.e. image enhancement and OCR programs, XML-editors) to capture different kinds of data during the digital production process
  • Linking to relevant resources for digital library development and repositories

ODL staff will be evaluating and implementing internationally agreed standards for digital library elements (i.e. technical parameters for image capture, metadata schemes and delivery protocols).

Training of digital library project personnel will ensure the capture of interoperable digital data conforming to ODL standards.
