Description:
Bronze bust, facing viewer; long wig, prominent bushy eyebrows, moustache; lace cravat, Chancellor's robe indicated at left shoulder; Knight Grand Cross, Order of St Michael and St George over his left breast. On scagliola pedestal inscribed 'Jowett'.
'The Acting Curator [Mr Green] reported an offer on the part of the Vice-Chancellor to present to the Examination School a bust in bronze of Lord Cave the late Chancellor of the University. ... The Curators accepted with gratitude the Vice-Chancellor's offer...' (Minutes of the Curators of the Schools, 1914 - [1952], 18 Jan 1929, Bodleian Library,. ES/1/1/2, fol. 97)
Perhaps posthumous. Perhaps after the portrait by Sir Gerald Kelly, exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1924 (Merchant Taylors' Hall, London).
