35mm slides and filmstrips – around 1,000 individual images in total – will be scanned and mounted on the Library’s website. All cartographic imagery currently held in the Bodleian’s Department of Special Collections and Western Manuscripts’ slides and filmstrips operation will be added to the Map Room’s web presence. All of the maps selected are “out of copyright”, and all the initial photography was undertaken by the Bodleian’s Imaging Services Department.

On completion, this project will bring the Library’s cartographic web presence into line with other institutions of a similar status. Access to the images is free of charge via the Bodleian Library Map Room website located at: http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/guides/maps/
