| Summary |
From
1st December 2003 to 1st May 2004 the Bodleian staged
a major exhibition to mark the bicentenary of the British
Prime Minister, novelist and writer, Benjamin Disraeli,
1st Earl of Beaconsfield ( 1804-81). The exhibition focuses
on a number of stepping stones- various key stages in
Disraeli’s life. Most of the exhibits are drawn from Disraeli’s
own private papers ( known as the Hughenden collection)
held on long term loan from the National Trust at Hughenden,
other Bodleian collections and material from private collectors
lent specifically for the exhibition.
The
original exhibition has been digitised (with the exception
of one or two items) and extended to include letters in
their entirety and new items offered for inclusion. Funding
by ODL also brought the opportunity for additional research
and selected of material including the new section on
Fun (1861-1901), the satirical magazine whose
cartoons regularly featured Disraeli.
