| Summary |
The
Curzon Project offers digital images of political cartoons
from the period of the French Revolution and Napoleonic
wars. For digitization in 2002-2003, a selection of 800
prints has been made, focusing on changing representations
of Napoleon and on British fears of invasion during the
period 1793-1805. The digital images are linked to an
online catalogue, searchable by artist, title, date, and
subject.
The images presented here are taken from original etchings
contained in extra-illustrated volumes of A. M. Broadley's
Napoleon in caricature (1911) and J. Holland Rose's Life
of Napoleon (1905). In addition to over 1000 political
cartoons, the collection contains manuscript letters,
prints, portraits, and broadsides illustrating the life
and career of Napoleon Bonaparte and the period of the
Napoleonic wars in Europe.
